Why Choose Engineered Wood vs Concrete Flooring

SEP 7 2021 | MATERIAL HANDLING, ROBOTICS, SELF-STORAGE

The global flooring market size is valued at $388 billion!

That number is expected to grow, too, as consumer preferences for aesthetically improved designs, textures, and colors, and low-maintenance, and easy-to-install floorings continue to rise.

Contractors may be inclined to utilize the materials they're more familiar with (like concrete!), but there is a more cost-effective, higher-quality option out there.

Here's why engineered wood (also known as industrial resin flooring) wins this debate.

It's More Lightweight

When building a mezzanine deck, weight matters.

A deck made of traditional concrete flooring and corrugated steel weighs an average of 45 pounds per square foot.

In contrast, a deck made of ResinDek® engineered wood and corrugated steel weighs only five pounds per square foot.

That makes it 90% lighter than concrete floors, yet this doesn't force you to sacrifice quality.

It's durable for the most rigorous of workloads.

It's More Affordable

The actual cost of engineered wood per square foot is much less than concrete, making it much more friendly to a planner's budget.

Also, because engineered wood floor systems on mezzanines are so much lighter, they'll need far fewer structural steel supports. This results in significant cost savings too.

It Takes Less Time to Install

Construction delays can mean big trouble for a contractor and high costs for a business owner.

Depending upon the size of the mezzanine and engineered wood, such as ResinDek, can decrease installation time by three to five weeks!

And while concrete floors take time to cure, ResinDek composite engineered wood flooring comes with a factory finish. That means once the installation is finished, the client won't have to wait to use the new space.

It's More Mobile

As a company's needs change, they may want a solution that can grow with them.

Engineered wood flooring panels can be more easily deconstructed.

It Requires Less Maintenance

Regular maintenance of ResinDek engineered wood flooring material is straightforward.

The surface can be cleaned with a damp mop or even cleaning solvents without fear of damage.

Unless the concrete is sealed, the floor is typically dusty for the first six months, so you will need to sweep the floor at least once a day. Plus, concrete floors tend to crack and spall overtime.

It's Easier to Repair

ResinDek engineered wood floor panels are built to last and are extremely durable. But still, they should be installed and maintained correctly to improve the lifespan of the material.

Cracks or holes can occur if load weight recommendations are not followed. That may sound like a drawback to some, but these occurrences are quite rare and replacing an engineered floor panel is much easier than concrete.

Concrete floors tend to develop cracks due to normal wear and tear and the weight of heavy machinery. Unfortunately, repairing these issues is not as simple as you might think. For example, if you fail to fill the cracks as directed, the cracks will come back later.

Making the Right Choice

Choosing the right industrial flooring system may seem like a daunting task.

But when you compare the options, the decision is clear.

Engineered wood for your industrial floor will provide the flexibility, affordability, and convenience that can benefit your business both in the short and long run.

ResinDek composite engineered wood flooring just makes sense.
