Our Story

Invented in 1994, ResinDek® flooring panels revolutionized the material handling industry with an innovative solution for elevated work platforms. Building on that success, Cornerstone Specialty Wood Products was formed in 2001 with a clear mission: to lead research and development in composite engineered wood flooring panels for mezzanines, ground floor and elevated robotic platforms, and pick modules.

Our growth reflects our commitment to innovation. In 2004, Cornerstone Specialty Wood Products joined UW Solutions (previously Universal Woods), expanding our reach and capabilities. Most recently, in 2024, Apogee Enterprises acquired UW Solutions, positioning ResinDek within a powerful portfolio of performance surface solutions.

Today, we continue to lead research and development in the composite engineered wood flooring industry, consistently pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in material handling solutions. As part of Apogee Enterprises’ Performance Surfaces division, we collaborate with industry leaders including ChromaLuxe, Unisub, RDC Coatings, and Tru Vue. Together, we develop and manufacture high-performance coated materials that serve diverse markets—from industrial flooring and architectural interiors to wall décor, museums, graphic design, and digital displays.

Cut-to-Size Capabilities

Precisely Matched Flooring Dimensions for Elevated Work Platforms and More

ResinDek engineered flooring panels are custom manufactured to match the specific dimensional requirements of elevated work platforms and mezzanines. Our design engineers will review the supplied application drawings to determine the floor panel layout that minimizes field cutting and waste, while optimizing panel utilization. Panels can be sized in millimeters or inches and manufactured in small or large quantities.

ResinDek Panel Sizes

ResinDek panels are available with our proprietary coatings, TriGard® ESD and Gray Diamond Seal®, in sizes up to 4′ x 10′ (1220 mm x 3048 mm). ResinDek flooring panels with MetaGard® SST steel surface or MetaGard GVT galvanized steel surface are available in sizes up to 4′ x 8′ (1220 mm x 2348 mm).

To support smooth, uninterrupted panel-to-panel wheel load transfers and ensure a perfectly level flooring surface, ResinDek floor panels utilize tongue-and-groove configurations for proper joint support and feature identical panel thicknesses. When required, tongue-and-groove configurations may be specified on all four panel sides.

R&D and Performance Testing for Industrial Mezzanines

Solving Challenges Through Proven Engineering & Research

Our team never stops evaluating and testing new approaches for mezzanine floors. We believe in helping our customers solve problems through innovative designs and long-lasting durability. At our advanced research and engineering facility we have designed and built a series of floor testing equipment that accurately replicate field conditions. In addition to testing internally we also send our products out to be evaluated by independent laboratories for a wide variety of tests.

Testing Examples:

  • Taber Abrasion
  • Gouge Resistance
  • Gloss
  • Reflectivity
  • Surface Roughness
  • Coefficient of Friction
  • Stain Resistance
  • Electrostatic Dissipative Surface
  • Impact Resistance
  • Dynamic and Static Rolling Load Capacit
  • Modulus of Rupture
  • Modulus of Elasticity
  • Surface Hardness
  • Pallet Jack Capacity
  • Point Load Capacity
  • Uniform Load Capacity
  • Class A and UL approved Fire Ratings

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best ResinDek surface for robotic traffic (AGVs & AMRs)?

The ideal surface depends on your robot’s specific use case. For variable travel paths (common with AMRs), TriGard ESD Coating is the standard. For high-repetition, defined travel paths, TriGard ESD Ultra Coating offers 4X the wear resistance. For extreme wear, pivoting, or areas with debris, the MetaGard SST Finish with its stainless steel surface is the most durable option.

For standard heavy rolling traffic, Gray Diamond Seal Coating is the industry benchmark for excellent wear and stain resistance. For extreme environments with a risk of impact, gouging, or aggressive dragging of loads, the MetaGard GVT Finish with its galvanized steel surface provides maximum durability.

On this page, “coatings” refer to our durable, liquid-applied surfaces like TriGard and Gray Diamond Seal. The term “finishes” is a broader category that includes both our coatings and our robust MetaGard products, which feature a metal surface (stainless or galvanized steel) bonded to the top of the ResinDek® panel.

Both are specialized coatings for robotic traffic. The primary difference is durability; TriGard ESD Ultra is engineered to provide more than four times the wear resistance of the standard TriGard® ESD. Ultra is designed for the most demanding, high-frequency, and repetitive travel paths.

Both offer maximum durability with a metal surface. MetaGard SST uses a stainless steel surface and is engineered specifically for the abrasive wear-and-tear of robotic traffic, including pivoting. MetaGard® GVT uses a galvanized steel surface and is designed to resist impact, gouging, and dragging from heavy pallet jacks and non-wheeled loads.

An Electrostatic Dissipative (ESD) surface is critical in environments with sensitive electronics. It safely grounds the static electricity that builds up from traffic, protecting the delicate electronic components on your AGVs, AMRs, or other equipment from potentially damaging electrostatic discharges.

The Unfinished (UF) ResinDek panel is the most economical option. It provides a durable, moisture-resistant, and slip-resistant surface that is backed by a 10-year warranty and can be used as-is or painted/coated on-site.

The MetaGard finishes (both SST and GVT) offer the maximum level of durability. They feature a bonded steel surface that provides “ironclad” resistance to abrasion, impact, gouging, and scratches, making them ideal for the most physically abusive and extreme wear applications.

Yes, these surface options can be applied to our range of ResinDek structural panels. The right combination depends on your application’s specific load capacity requirements. Our team can help you select the perfect pairing of a structural panel and a surface coating or finish.
