Challenge: Provide a mezzanine flooring solution when other flooring could not stand up to the load requirements
Solution: ResinDek® Xspan® was chosen due to its ability to successfully support the heavy volume of rolling traffic
Although Iron Mountain has used ResinDek® in hundreds of USA facilities, a project in the United Kingdom provided somewhat of a challenge. The European designed and manufactured flooring that they had been using just wasn't holding up to their demanding requirements. So Cornerstone Specialty Wood Products, LLC® was contacted and asked to provide testing utilizing Iron Mountain's support structure and load requirements.
With close collaboration between the Consultants, the Systems Integrator, Iron Mountain, and the Cornerstone Specialty Wood Products Engineering Team, an exact recreation of loading condition requirements were determined and tested at Cornerstone Specialty Wood Products Testing Facility.
With its extensive testing equipment technology, Cornerstone Specialty Wood Products tested ResinDek® Xspan® with the equivalent of 1,000 kilograms of hand pallet truck loads. After 130,000 cycles of heavy hand pallet truck load traffic across a 1 meter x 75 mm wide travel area, no signs of wear or failures at the tongue and groove joints or along the panel surface appeared.
With 3,250 square meters of ResinDek Xspan® installed, Iron Mountain and their Consultant, Lysander Associates are pleased and confident with the results. "We are currently planning to use the ResinDek Xspan panels in Iron Mountain's next projects which may be considerably larger. We see ResinDek Xspan panels providing an excellent solution to our challenges here at Belvedere and plan to recommend them on future projects", said Neil Taylor, Managing Director at Lysander Associates.
ResinDek panels are now specified extensively across Europe for their ability to successfully carry Iron Mountain's heavy volume of rolling traffic. If you're looking to install engineered flooring, our team at Cornerstone Specialty Wood Products can help. Contact us today.
