FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FOR ResinDek® FLOOR & SHELVING

Q1: Why are ResinDek® floor panels undersized?

A1: We manufacture the panels 1/8" under nominal dimensions to allow for gapping. When spaced properly, a nominal 4x8 panel will take up exactly 48" x 96" of space on your platform.

Q2: Why do I need to gap ResinDek® floor panels?

A2: ResinDek panels, like most other mezzanine floor panels in the industry, are prone to linear expansion during changes in humidity on the jobsites. Because ResinDek panels are extremely dense and don't crush under load, they are particularly susceptible to buckling if the panels expand into adjacent panel edges. Once maximum growth is achieved, the gaps rarely shrink and remain quite stable.

Please note that ResinDek panels with UF, Gray Diamond Seal, Gray Diamond Seal ESD and TriGard ESD finishes require the 1/8" gap. ResinDek panels with MetaGard should be gapped a minimum of 1/16" and maximum 3/16". Please reference the ResinDek Installation Instructions for further details.

Q3: When do I need a finish on my mezzanine floor panels?

A3: When you have high traffic and want a good-looking floor for years to come on your storage mezzanine floors and mezzanine platform floors. Without a finish, stains from beverages, marking pens, and traffic penetrate the panels and are not easily removed.

Q4: Can you apply a finish to ResinDek UF (unfinished) after it has been installed?

A4: While not as durable as our factory coating options, ResinDek UF can be painted onsite. Sherwin-Williams offers a wide range of two-part coating options, please contact our office for additional details.

Q5: Can ResinDek® engineered floor panels help me with Fire Code Issues?

A5: Code compliance for ResinDek panels installed over steel deck can be found in the following Evaluation Service Reports: Fire Compliance.

Q6: How much do industrial floor panels weigh?

A6: Industrial floors panels can vary in weight depending on the material used. Our ResinDek® industrial floor panels range from 2.8lbs. / sf. - 7.6 lbs. / sf. Here is a list of our panels and their weight:

  • ResinDek® LD 2.8 lbs. / sf. (13.7 kg/m2)
  • ResinDek® SD 3.1 lbs. / sf. (16.6 kg/m2)
  • ResinDek® MD 3.5 lbs. / sf. (16.6 kg/m2)
  • ResinDek® HD 3.8 lbs. / sf. (18.6 kg/m2)
  • ResinDek® Xspan® 5.2 lbs. / sf. (25.4 kg/m2)
  • ResinDek® Xspan® FR 5.2 lbs. / sf. (25.4 kg/m2)
  • ResinDek® with MetaGard® LD 4.2 lbs. / sf. (20.5 kg/m2)

  • ResinDek® with MetaGard® MD 4.9 lbs. / sf. (23.9 kg/m2)
  • ResinDek® with MetaGard® HD 5.2 lbs. / sf. (25.4 kg/m2)
  • ResinDek® with MetaGard® Xspan® 6.6 lbs. / sf. (32.3 kg/m2)
  • ResinDek® with MetaGard® Xspan® 6.6 lbs. / sf. (32.3 kg/m2)

Q7: What is more important - Uniform loads per square foot, or pallet jack loads?

A7: While both are important, the loads imposed by pallet jacks are usually more critical because the load is more concentrated and dynamic instead of static. Pallet jack loads also appear to increase the risk of failure faster when recommended loads are exceeded.

Q8: Are ResinDek® floor panels under warranty?

A8: All ResinDek panels are conditionally warranted for a period of ten years when installed and used within our guidelines. Please refer to our detailed Installation Instructions and written warranty for details.

Q9: Why is the type of wheel on a pallet jack or cart important?

A9: The relationship between wheel and floor surface is critical to lengthening the lifespan of the floor. Wheels (much like automobile tires) are intended to wear and be replaced, and therefore we recommend softer materials like polyurethane. They will also better distribute dynamic loads through increased surface areas.

Crowned, steel or plastic wheels can void the ResinDek 10-year product warranty. They will potentially damage the ResinDek finish and create panel failure by reducing bearing area. This substantially increases the dynamic point loads on the floor.

Q10: When should I use the ESD finish on my ResinDek® floor panels?

A10: ResinDek with Gray Diamond Seal ESD should be used whenever there is electrically sensitive equipment, including laptops, barcode scanners, and RFID devices on or around your mezzanine platform floors. ResinDek with TriGard ESD has all the benefits above, but is also designed to handle the rigorous demands of ultra-high rolling traffic typically found in robotic applications.

Q11: Why do I have to use your ResinDek Drill Screws instead of my own?

A11: You can use your own screws, but we cannot warrant against fastener related issues if you do. Our screws are self-drilling, require no counter-boring, and are computer color matched to the panel surface. Problems frequently encountered with other screws include strip out, improper seating of the screw head, and panel lift from the surface of the corrugated. Pre-drilling may be required on ResinDek Xspan installed over heavy gauge steel. Cornerstone Specialty Wood Products, LLC® for further details.

Q12: What is the Invisi-Loc® Underside Fastening System?

A12: The Invisi-Loc Underside Fastening System is an advanced fastener installation system that mounts fasteners under the mezzanine decking rather than on the top. Our patented underside fastening provides a showcase appearance floor that is easier to clean.

Q13: What is the standard unit size for ResinDek floor Panels?
A13:
  • ResinDek® LD 36 pcs. per unit
  • ResinDek® SD 32 pcs. per unit
  • ResinDek® MD 32 pcs. per unit
  • ResinDek® HD 32 pcs. per unit
  • ResinDek Xspan® 21 pcs. per unit
  • ResinDek Xspan® FR 21 pcs. per unit

Q14: How do you repair damaged mezzanine floors?

A14: There are a number of different methods for repairing damaged mezzanine floors depending on the scope. ResinDek mezzanine floor panels can be repaired and touched up using our ResinDek Touch up coating and Resin repair compound filler. Please see our "Care and Maintenance Instructions" for details.

Q15: What are the pallet jack load carrying capacities of ResinDek® floor panels?

A15: Please see our mezzanine flooring overview page for more information on pallet jack load carrying capacities of ResinDek® floor panels.

Q16: How thick are ResinDek panels?

A16: ResinDek LD, MD and HD are 3/4" thick. ResinDek Max is 1-1/2" thick and ResinDek Xspan is 1-1/8" thick is designed to be installed directly over bar joists or structural supports without "B" decking.

Q17: What industries use mezzanine floors?

A17: There are a variety of different industries that use mezzanine floor panels such as 3PL, E-Commerce, Warehouse & Distribution Centers, Microfulfillment, Self-Storage and more. ResinDek engineered flooring panels are designed for elevated platforms, pick modules, mezzanines, industrial work platforms, robotic platforms, and storage platforms and facilities.

Q18: How thick should a mezzanine floor be?

A18: The mezzanine floors ResinDek® provides have a deck thickness of 3/ 4", 1-1/8" and 1-1/2". There are many times when the thickness of a mezzanine floor needs to be minimized due to various height restrictions, which makes our floor panels an ideal choice.

Q19: IS GRAY DIAMOND SEAL 2 AND GRAY DIAMOND SEAL THE SAME THING?

A19: Yes, but to help clear up any confusion we dropped the "2" and changed the name to Gray Diamond Seal.

Q20: How far can ResinDek panels cantilever out past the framing without any additional decking or framing below to support it?

A20: ResinDek panels that are 3/4" thick can cantilever a maximum of 6" for walking traffic.
